A Window to ‘their’ future: Lady Hardinge Medical College Alumni Association of North America (LHMCAANA) Donors connect with LHMC sponsored FFE scholars

“We want You Girls to Have Fun and Be Well Rounded”, Dr. Kumkum Bhasin

On 5th November 2022, 12 LHMCAANA donors interacted virtually with 16 scholars they have been sponsoring since 2021. It was the idea of giving back to their Alma Mater that brought these empowered, successful women together to sponsor a new generation of doctors, which they truly believe is one of the best gifts to their college.

The interaction was engaging with 4 scholars sharing their inspiring journey of becoming FFE-LHMCAANA scholars and now budding doctors. It was heart-warming to hear young bright girls who have braved multiple hardships and are now on their path to become doctors, the first in their families. One of the scholars, Prachi Panchal mentioned how she is the first one to study MBBS in her family and now her sister too is preparing for NEET, which beautifully ties up with FFE’s motto of transforming generations.

One of the other scholars, Puja Kumari shared how her mother’s support, motivation and trust brought her where she is today and how she only studied, while her mother took care of everything else. She said, “I can do and I have to do. I have to remember where I started and I have to help students like me in future.” Unfortunately, Puja lost her mother before she could become a doctor but her zeal to become a doctor remains the same.

The donors were very excited to see their scholars, hear their stories and wanted to know how they could contribute further in empowering the girls and mentoring them to become strong women.

Dr. Kumkum Bhasin said, they would like to mentor the girls to become ‘women with good self-value and also help them so that they can hold themselves high’. She also mentioned that they would like to provide ‘professional and personal coaching’ to the girls.
